Dear LeikaRO players,

As some of you may know, we've recently been making fairly controversial changes to RO's base gameplay which a few of you might not feel comfortable with or simply alienated by. This was never our intention. Our true intention going in with LeikaRO was to add new content left out by rAthena and Hercules, fix long-standing bugs to separate ourselves from the tens of other shitty vanilla Renewal servers out there, and make net gain balance changes without directly changing class' power. We've hated the way RO pservers have been developed for as long as we've played them and got our best chance here on LeikaRO. We became overzealous during this endeavor, straying from our original direction. Terpsichore and I would like to issue a formal apology to those who have been so negatively affected by the style of LeikaRO's previous development, and to inform you this will be changing.

From now on, major content updates and changes will for the most part be discussed with the community before they are implemented onto the live game server. With this will come a secondary Test Server where we can freely make changes at any time. Everyone will have full access to the entirety of the game on this specific Test Server for the purposes of testing. This won't impact regular weekly or bi-weekly maintenances. However, it does mean less custom changes (if any) will be made during them. Maintenances will instead contain more and more bugfixes with minor content additions and various changes that have next to no direct gameplay impact - barring obvious power changes from bug fixes.

Our mission from here on going forward with LeikaRO is to let the community have their input rather than deciding major things on a whim.

The Announcements and Patch Notes subforums will now be open for public commenting. This means you will be able to give your direct and immediate feedback on whatever you feel in an Announcement or Patch Notes thread for up to 6 weeks after the initial post date. Certain threads may be subject to different rules regarding this.

tl;dr we'll be more involved with you all from here on out and won't be making any big changes without majority votes.

Pretty much what he said, I find it funny how our issue is doing too many things instead of doing nothing at all, which happens on most other servers. Have to find a middle ground.

LeikaRO just tied the score up 1-1 with that win, they are going into game 3 of this best of 3 set with renewed focus.

Just as long as we don't get stuck, too, like Terp says. A lot of servers stagnate because they don't want to make people angry about things changing. Leika needs to keep up with its innovation, not fall into the comfortable rut that all the other servers out there have dug out ahead of us.

Nice initiative. It'll be a lot easier finding/reproducing bugs related to gameplay too(like skills not working propely or with odds behavior), and of course, not getting surprised with a mob with "extra" skills. Looking foward the test server, and the open update topics.

Needed and healthy changes.

Said this before, looking forward how the server develops.

And I hope I speak for a lot of players, the effort and work that the GM's put into this server is very visible and appreciated, you are already standing out from other servers.

Even for instance compared with a high rated an praised TalonRo ( where I spent years ), you are definitely putting in a lot more work and consideration.

I actually find the direction of the server pretty cool, and yeah it's worlds better than doing nothing atall. My only objection was the lack of communication, but you have instantly rectified this and taken the initiative. I heard alot of complaints in game and I acted as a voice for those complaints, about specific changes etc, but the complaints I actually have are few and far between. The majority of us are here to help, and my only advice is to players now: Stop bitching in game and start communicating on forums.

This could potentially increase workload for the staff as you follow the forums more closely, players will suggest things more often, and you may need more staff. So let's try to be patient.

Although some more open discussion is always a good thing, it's nevertheless true that too much of perceived 'democracy' muddles up issues rather than clarifies them. With that in mind, I'm personally grateful as a player that you felt the need to apologize about the lack of prior communication, and that individual voices will get more consideration in future changes. However, a word of advice as a decade+ old RO player and a veteran of a few servers - You're the leaders who ultimately decide the direction this server takes. It's well and good that you wish to take more input from the players, but I rather like that you're ready to take a few risks and innovate rather than play it slow and safe. As others have commented here, it's easy to fall into stagnation in a bid to play it safe.

In the end, you're GMs and Admins - not Customer Service staff. It's an important distinction. The feedback from players should remain as a channel for extra perspectives into an issue, not the main guiding force if you feel strongly enough about something. I also rather love the idea that you sort of went "mad scientist" on the server, taking your own previous experiences as players into account to decide upon the changes that would be implemented. It's a pretty risque way of running things. How very seat-of-the-pants of you. But it makes things rather more interesting than GMs from other servers who could have freezer coolant running through their veins for all the passion they seem to have for the game nowadays.

Also, I'm really looking forward to the Test Server. Sounds awesome /meow

Chippy the MVP slayer liking them changes. Shit just got real.

I like the post, but it feels slightly wrong to me. The server was perfectly fine a few weeks ago. (Meta game wise). Then Terp simply brought out the nerf hammer and nerfed things left and right. With good intentions. But poorly designed. I like that the staff is more open now, but i dont want that we, the community, have a strong impact on meta changes. Because the community always want things easy enough, casualized and trivial once an experienced player tackles that content. if finding the balance, between the inputs of the players and staff, takes too long to implement, i'd rather have the players sit this one out. I'd rather have it that the staff posts upcoming changes to the meta game or balance or content and then let the community give a quick response to it. Overwhelming negative would clearly mean that this topic alone should be dicussed, not the entirety of the post. (unless the community hates all of it)

Obviously there needs to be arguments linked with opinions. Simply up and down voting wont do. Like, if the suggested changes from the other topic are being made to the server, were in pretty good condition already. Take out retarded teleport. Nerf Lost dragon a little for early players. Reduce Spellcost and adjust the instance and its difficulty and cool down (if needed). Nerf a few early game monsters people have repeated problems with. Fix current endgame bugs (Verus being retarded, etc). Keep endgame hard, but dont make it annoying. Test things before you implement them, including monster skill power, spamminess. Aswell as item scripts (Holy rosario and Upgraded stuff comes to mind).

^

If those changes happen, i dont see any reason why someone can complain, really.

This won't turn into a complete socialist system. The staff are fairly good at detecting inexperienced advice and will ultimately use their own reasoning anyway. The reason for opening up changes for discussion is not to please everybody or implement whatever most people want, but to see if any experienced players have new ideas or advice on improving the staffs ideas that hasn't been thought of yet. They won't implement something simply because the majority want it, they will weigh up the benefits and drawbacks and apply their own reasoning before implementing something, with most focus given to server balance and long term economy, rather than giving people whatever easymode stuff they ask for. That's my view on it anyway.

Who is complaining?

All the recent changes were really useful?

/??

I hope the test server installation doesn't require downtime on the main server.

Regardless, keep up the good work guys.

Because a lot of my thoughts have already been posted on the forums, I'll just say this:

I told the people of this server that I genuinely believed in this server because of the people running it. This is exactly why I made that statement; because rather than shutting down forums out of embarrassment, you as Developers and Admins have used negative criticism as a means to try and make the best decision possible. Scias and Erik can vouch that 99% of other servers in general don't do this, and that's the reason the RO community has died the way it has. But please, don't give up on it just yet. RO might be dead, but that simply makes LeikaRO all the more impressive, as a server that stands out; as a server that tries to give a shit.

There's no shame whatsoever in the post made here; you should give yourself a pat on the back for even making a post like this; because it's the first and only post of it's nature that I've seen an administrative RO team make. Even more so, this reminds me that I need to get back to practicing scripting so I can actually be of help sometime in the future. Why? Because I'd like to think that GM's and Players can both come to terms with their mistakes and work with each other, rather then blame one another for their shortcomings and misunderstandings.

Keep it up; you're taking a step in the right direction.

I've heard that the RO scene is dead, but it depends on how you look at it. The population, even with renewal alone, is spread across so many servers. 99% of these servers as you mentioned have inherent problems, whether it is the staffs attitude, or simple incompetence. This is all the more reason to try hard with this server. Those other servers will inevitably die whether it takes a short time or a long time. But if this server does what it means to do and become a long lasting balanced server, and it soaks up population from any other servers that die, then the population may eventually give us the impression that RO is not dead afterall. I have met students just in my last couple of days in the city, who know ragnarok or have friends who play it. And these are young people straight out of high school. When young people in scotland of all places who I expected to just be playing CoD, BF4 and flappy bird, know of or play RO, that gives me hope. And I stress this again. This is scotland. The least kawaii-desu place of all time. Imagine Mel Gibson playing RO and you'll see where I'm coming from.

Granted not all potential population wants balance and stability, alot of people want pay2win and high rates. But those are the kind of players that will burn themselves out fairly quickly and leave anyway. But despite these different kind of players, I believe even narrowed down to people who don't want p2w, don't want easymode or high rates, this type of server still has a large demographic and extremely high potential for popularity.
