Overview

caption

To enter this dungeon you must speak to the Nomadic Mercenary, standing inside the first level of Ice Dungeon.
The minimum base level required to enter is 130 and there's a fee of 17500 Zeny.

This zone is a normal, open dungeon which features repeatable quests, equipment crafting as well as certain new mechanics.
Those include a safe zone where monsters can't spawn, and they can't be dragged inside either, this is the hub with all relevant NPCs.
Masked Acolyte will recover your HP/SP free of charge, with a cooldown of 5 minutes. Teleportation is disabled on this map.

Background and Lore

It seems that the Arunafeltz Republic isn't safe from the ever-increasing appearances of the Illusion Dungeons either. Seemingly a copy of the last level of Ice Dungeon, the place is in reality much more sinester, with a cold so intense that a lesser man would freeze to death in minutes unless next to a source of heat. The monsters are even more rabid, enjoying gratuitous slaughter. Not without politics of course, the Cult of Freyja quickly got their hands on this place, hiring rugged mercenaries from Moscovia to guard their operations as those can actually fight in the hellish cold. There's also a party of unknown allegiance, an elusive specter that seems to be spying and and weaving strange spells. Ktullanux can also be met here, or rather a distorted version of him. Without Loomin to guard and sealed in an empty cave by the freezing flames of Hel. Putting those flames out will only unleash the seething rage of this ancient salamander upon the world.

What else is there to say, this place is perfect for an adventurer with big aspirations! While the site is being run by the cryptic Cult of Freyja, the executive they sent is wise and fairly amiable,
and she's in need of your fighting prowess. The leader of the Moscovite druzhinniks could also use a strong fighting arm.

Tips

This dungeon is intended as a party zone, as such it can be tough to tackle alone if you're in the intended level range. As teleportation is disabled, don't bite more than you can chew and advance carefully.

Condensed Iceicles can be found all across the dungeon, they may be hard to spot at first and any unaware adventurer that walks too close, will be assaulted by a piercing barrage of icy attacks.
They also support nearby monsters with potent heals so they're better of destroyed quickly. Thankfully their HP and defenses are very low.

Gelid Specter is a rogue agent most likely sent by some necromancer. It prefers to avoid confrontation and is rarely found on the same spot.
Do not be fooled though, as this entity is a potent spellcaster that employs an array of water, shadow, neutral and supportive spells, and comes with a flock of Ice Gargoyles as bodyguards.

Awakened Ktullanux has nothing to protect but also nothing to lose. In this mindless form, he's a living incarnation of Helheim's permafrost, and his fighting abilities are on a whole new level.
On top of his original abilities, he also employs skills such as Ice Breath, Jack Frost or Wide Chill, and also targets random party members with a high level Frost Diver or the
devastating Ice Blast which deals heavy damage and inflicts Crystallization. Also watch out for the Ice Mines placed on random locations around the boss.

Monsters

Freyja protects her followers by expelling invaders from the encampment and so do the druzhinniks hired by Maha.
Gelid Specter can spawn in seven different locations and isn't aggressive, do not provoke unless you're ready for a real fight!
Lastly, Awakened Ktullanux does not spawn normally, he must be summoned by putting out the Blistering Flames. Loomin's Reflection will help you with that.

Awakened Ktullanux Summoning

Blistering Flame

Four of these freezing fires set up by Hel are keeping Ktullanux imprisoned inside the hidden cave. They're spread around the central area.
Each can be put out with a flask containing the Tears of Freyja, but only Loomin has access to such a strange liquid.

Loomin's Reflection

caption

It appears that Loomin also sensed the appearance of this dungeon, and the tormented replica of Ktullanux dwelling inside.
He wants nothing more than to put an end to the suffering of the bizarre creature which reminds him so much of his caring guardians, so he projected his presence into the dungeon.
As he has no ability to fight, he will request the aid of adventurers instead, offering them one flask of Tears of Freyja in exchange for ten Ice Crystals,
or four flasks in exchange for one Eye of Ktullanux, which Awakened Ktullanux himself drops.
Those materials are required for Loomin to keep the dimension from collapsing, as it's apparently very unstable unlike those found in Rune-Midgard.

Crafting

Researcher Zand

caption

This aged scientist is native to the Arunafeltz Republic but he's sick of the twisted pursuits the Cult of Freyja follows, and no longer works for them. His only interests are of scientific nature and this strange dungeon is something the likes of which he hasn't seen before. Compelled by the desire to study the unknown, he tagged along the expedition. Despite the jagged past he had with the Cult, Maha doesn't seem to mind it much, appreciating the usefulness of the various inventions he brought with him. Being in his last years, Zand doesn't care much about material wealth, and it's also hinted that he's disgustingly rich.

He studied the equipment which monsters inside the dungeon drop and quickly managed to replicate their awesome properties. Although just a pasttime, this research proved to be useful in the end as he's now able to outfit new adventurers with magical equipment, so they can survive for longer periods of time and bring him new materials and other substances worth of reseach.
He has a big stock of such equipment that he previously created and will gladly exchange just for the raw materials required for the creation.
