Quests are tasks given to adventurers by NPCs. They range from talking to other NPCs, to collecting items, to fighting monsters, and more. Some quests have prerequisites, such as completing other quests, or being of a specific class or level. Rewards for quests vary by individual quests, and may give items, base EXP, job EXP, or a combination of them.
The quest window (opened with Alt+U) allows the player to view all quests that their character has started but are incomplete. Instance dungeon quests and battlegrounds instances always remain once started. Players can move a quest to the inactive tab by right-clicking on the quest name. Players can move a quest from inactive to active by right-clicking it again. If enabled, the first quests listed in the active tab will display on the right side of the user interface, below the map, with a basic description of the quest.
If a player has a quest that requires them to kill a specific monster, a notification box will appear above their head noting their progress upon each of that monster killed.
It is important to not that not every quest has a component in the quest window. The information in the quest window is not comprehensive and does not specify the location of the next NPC or the locations a player must visit. Players will either have to pay close attention and remember the details of the quests at the time they are given or to use quest guides online while completing quests.
