 149zr5.jpgWelcome TO Poets & Writer's Cafe 149zr5.jpg

I do enjoy good poetry / stories, even though I am not a writer! Post your favourite poetry, stories, haiku, or your own. Share your work with the community. Some one once said "Imagery is perfect doorway into their appreciation".

Don't be shy, let your talent's blossom.

Ok enough talks, I posting one of my favourite Poem...

ot2rns.jpg

I love the 7th line...

"One shade the more, one ray the less"

Lord Byron has beautifully reflected the balance in a women's beauty(Physical,Spiritual,Intellectual), instead of eroticism! This poem is handled in a delicate way.. I overall enjoy reading this poem often....

I have a book somewhere of Serj Tankien's poetry. This is one of my favourites from the book, when I read it it was incredible, probably shook me more than the video.

And this:

I don't want to Shower

I don't want to shower,
I don't want to erase the sweat
That I have persevered for,
don't want to participate in your
Inflated ideals of cleanliness,
Brought to you
By the corporations' profit,
Through advertising, i.e. entertainment,
Willing your souls to scrub away,
All heathen thoughts and actions,
So we can cooperate,
So you can coerce,
And create co-ed zombies of the 21st century.
No thanks, man.
I'll just kick it and deal with my smell
Instead of yours.

@Scias
Misunderstood Rose- I liked this poem :)

"Sadness left us the residue of uncompromising love" - A perspicacious way to put what a relationship lacked...
Sweet pedals of a misunderstood rose?
mhm may be artist wants us - To relate his/her imagination/ experience!!

I stumbled upon this poem few days ago, its is written by young writer Alicia(lav)

A beautiful poem about life, death , funeral &  resurrection....

Wake
-Molly Minturn

Open your bedroom window in the heart of winter.
Wrap the wool blanket around you, the one
your brother once used to pin you beneath

for hours, held down by the chesterfield
and an ottoman. You resisted until
you were underwater, your eyes and lungs

filled with light, and you went to sleep
on the carpet. When you stopped struggling
you were left alone. Alone now, let the night

air in. The snap of it in your lungs like croup,
your mother rocking you in the bathroom, the tub
filled with steaming water, how she sang your name

again and again as if to call you back. Listen now
to the buzzing of electric wires outside
your window, the constant murmur, the way

you imagine the world must work—the secrets
people keep and then tell. It must be like waking
to a room full of yellow roses, knowing those truths.

Bouquet after bouquet from friends—they did not
forget you after all. Like waking to her humming
in a steaming room, life coming back to your lungs.

@Milady

Don't worry about English, just keep writing and practising... Eventually you will surpass :) Have you tried Haiku Or Senryu (short poems) ??.

Here is an interesting fact about J.R.R.Tolkien, in-case some of you don't know :p

HE WAS QUITE THE ROMANTIC (AND HE'S GOT THE NERDY GRAVESTONE TO PROVE IT)
At age 16, Tolkien fell in love with Edith Bratt, three years his senior. His guardian, a Catholic priest, was horrified that his ward was seeing a Protestant and ordered the boy to have no contact with Edith until he turned 21. Tolkien obeyed, pining after Edith for years until that fateful birthday, when he met with her under a railroad viaduct. She broke off her engagement to another man, converted to Catholicism, and the two were married for the rest of their lives. At Tolkien's instructions, their shared gravestone has the names "Beren" and "Luthien" engraved on it, a reference to a famous pair of star-crossed lovers from the fictional world he created.

Pi,Numbers,Love? Try to connect the dots, this is an interesting poem... Read along and enjoy  /meow

Calculations: A Love Poem
-Gary Fincke

The billionth digit of pi is 9,
The last month without a full moon,
February, 1865—
This morning I am making a list
Of the last lines of parables
About the work of numbers, about
Calculations, marking the speed
With which blood travels, as if three feet
Per second were like the blessings
On the late workers in a vineyard
Or a son just home from living with swine.

Someone continues the division
That computes the decimals of pi—
He is telling a story, numerals
Spilling out toward infinity,
The counting a language, a life
Beyond this one, as difficult
To believe as the number of hours
We've slept together, darkness returning
And vanishing, the moments, nightly,
Between your breaths, the hesitations
In your deep sleep; my own held breath,
Listening, and then, temporarily
Relieved, turning toward the window,
Reciting the autonomic lesson
Of your lungs that swell and shrink
At last, in rhythm, their vital
Capacity, in liters, 3.1.

This poem was written by an African child and nominated by UN as the Best Poem Of 2006.

And you calling me colored??

When I born, I black.
When I grow up, I black.
When I go in sun, I black.
When I scared, I black.
When I sick, I black.
And when I die, I still black.

And you white people.
When you born, you pink.
When you grow up, you white.
When you go in sun, you red.
When you cold, you blue.
When you scared, you yellow.
When you sick, you green
And when you die, you grey…
And you calling me colored??

Masks
She had blue skin.
And so did he.
He kept it hid
And so did she.
They searched for blue
Their whole life through,
Then passed right by –
And never knew.

- Shel Silverstein

This time i am posting 2 poems, one a Xmas and other a love poem. I enjoyed reading both, hope you do too. Have Merry Xmas  /meow

Candlelit Heart
-by Mary E. Linton

Somewhere across the winter world tonight
You will be hearing chimes that fill the air;
Christmas extends its all-enfolding light
Across the distance...something we can share.

You will be singing, just the same as I,
These familiar songs we know so well,
And you will see these same stars in your sky
And wish upon that brightest one that fell.

I shall remember you and trim my tree,
One shining star upon the topmost bough;
I will hang wreaths of faith that all may see --
Tonight I glimpse beyond the hear and now.

And all the time that we must be apart
I keep a candle in my heart.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------

“I Love You, Do You Love Me?”
-Unknown

The moment I think about you
I go to the another world
A world where you love me too
And where I can never be hurt
The truth is I don’t know what to say
My mind goes completely blank
I have never in my life lost my way
But my heart with your love simply sank
If letting go was a choice
Then I definitely would
But I can’t control the strong voice
That’s telling me I never should
I have no clue
On how I should let you go
What is it that you do?
That’s making me love you so…
Maybe loving you isn’t a mistake
Maybe I can close my eyes and smile
Maybe in your presence my heart wouldn’t break
Maybe I can just dream for a while…
I sometimes wonder if you feel the same
I wonder if you think of me
I sometimes wonder if you silently call my name
I wonder if you’ll ever see…
In the beginning I thought it was fake
I didn’t think I’d go this far
I thought it was just a mistake
Now I can’t stop wondering where you are
The question is do you care?
Do you even know?
Will you always be there?
Will you ever let me go?
If for any reason I cried
Would you take all the pain away?
If for any reason you lied
Would I still want you to stay?
My love for you is way too strong
For me to simply forget
Some people might think it’s wrong
But your love is the one thing I shan’t regret.

This is very very sweet poem, i loved it so much first time i read it....
