Yeah, that's what I'm wondering about.
I'm also trying to figure out the rate of acquiring equipment at which it becomes feasible to use a Whitesmith beyond +10, just because of how long it takes to accumulate voting points for HD ores. Obviously this would murder your chances, but if +10 isn't safe anymore, I suppose using WS refine gets within reason. I'm not sure how viable it is, haven't really worked it out yet. You'd probably have to play a lot.

the 100% chance from +10 to +11 and +11 to +12 was removed because of long term worries.
newest refine chances are as follows:
Refining success rates past +10 (Up to +10 remains the same):
- +11: 60%
- +12: 40%
- +13: 30%
- +14: 20%
- +15: 20%
- +16: 15%
- +17: 15%
- +18: 10%
- +19: 10%
- +20: 5%

Makes sense.
The new refine rates were why I was asking, actually. There's no mention about whether you can go below +10 from HD ore refining or not. +10 and above is "safe" on official servers.

What? You can't use HD bradiums on +10 and +11? What kind of faggotry is this?HD ores can only be applied to gear that is already +12 (at least according to the in-game description), hence you can't go below +10, but that doesn't mean it's "safe" to upgrade.

Imho +10 should be safe with HD ores. Aka going from +10 to +11 with normal Ore can fuck you up or 60% success. WS has 70%. HD Ores has 60% and if it fails stays at +10. The -2 levels instead of -1 can be kept. This way you would need a good amount of luck (60% + 40%) with HD ores to get past the +12 mark. And even then, it would eventually put you back to +10 once RNG screws with you. (Which means you should have multiple copies of the item) Dont see the long term worry there

The main issues are falling to +8 from +10 (6% chance to get back for armour/level 4, 9% for level 3) and the rate for each level over 10 being too low. Sets a pretty hard cap at around +12 that would require breaking a lot of shit.

I was running through the numbers today and I think they're in need of some kind of revision. The rates (when adjusted to include chance to refine back up and succeed after failures) are absolutely horrible and worse than a WS at every refine level. Doesn't make sense when the cost of using HD shit is so much higher than WS.

actually, WS can break weapons above +10 if it fails. NPCs will not break the weapons. this is the biggest difference between them.

Yeah, I know that. NPCs break them by sending them back down to +8 or 9. You just waste more ore (and equipment at the current rate) if you use an NPC to refine beyond +10.
