Overview

Adventuring by yourself can be lonely. Not long ago, it wasn't entirely unheard of for adventurers to "adopt" relatively harmless monsters, such as Porings and Lunatics. Over time, adventurers began to want not only these kinds of monsters, but others, to have as companions on their journeys. Those that were interested and dedicated enough studied the monsters, learning their strengths and weaknesses, their likes and dislikes, and eventually compiled encyclopedias on how various monsters in Midgard could be tamed. They also found that once a strong enough bond was forged between adventurer and monster, the monster started granting special powers to their owners.

Taming a Monster

Each kind of monster in Midgard has its own likes and dislikes. Items that they particularly loved have been written down as their tamable item. Once you have such an item, you can attempt to tame the monster.

  1. Find the monster you want to tame on a map it spawns on.
  2. Double-click the item in your inventory. This will turn your cursor into a targeting cursor with a halo icon.
  3. Carefully click the monster in order to begin the taming process.
  4. If the monster is clicked on successfully, a slot machine will appear in the center of your screen. Click on the slot machine to begin slowing down the reels.
  5. If the slot machine lands on "Success," you tamed the monster! You will obtain the monster in egg form in your inventory. If the machine lands on "Failure," you were unsuccessful in taming the monster and you will receive nothing.

Note: Once you have double-clicked the taming item and your cursor changes to the targeting cursor, the taming item is consumed from your inventory, regardless of whether or not you click on a monster. Be careful when trying to click on your monster, as mis-clicking--such as clicking on the ground or any other part of the game--will still consume the item.

Raising Your Pet

Once you have a monster egg, you need to hatch it! You can purchase a Pet Incubator from any Pet Merchant in town or from Pet Master Taini in the Item Mall. After you hatch the egg, you must make sure to feed your new pet or it will run away! Each monster pet has a unique diet and eats only specific items. Monsters also have varying metabolic rates and some will eat at different times in comparison to others; one pet may need to be fed every 5 minutes while another may need to eat every 9 minutes, etc.

In addition to keeping them from running away, feeding your monster pets will help to increase their intimacy levels. There are 5 levels of intimacy for pets:

  • Awkward
  • Shy
  • Neutral
  • Cordial
  • Loyal

Each pet starts out at the Neutral level upon hatching. Once its intimacy level reaches Loyal, it will grant its owner a special bonus to their stats.

Naming Your Pet

Are you tired of calling your pet Chonchon "Chonchon"? You can rename your pet once and only once. After you rename your pet, it cannot be renamed no matter what, so think carefully on what you want to name your pet. Some monster researchers believe that monster pets have a limited capacity for training and that once its owner teaches it its new name, it does not have the ability to learn another, no matter what the owner may try. Once a pet is named, if it is ever returned to its egg, it will have a new "Beloved" prefix to its name. For example, if Slobber, the Baby Desert Wolf, were ever returned to its egg, it would show as "Beloved Baby Desert Wolf" in the adventurer's inventory.

Dressing Your Pet

Recent fashionistas have gone on a clothing spree for their monster pets. Some kinds of pet has a special accessory that can be used to give it some pizzazz and flair. The accessory can be equipped and unequipped at will and remains on the pet when the pet is put back into its egg.
